Old Testament vs New Testament- Part 4
OR
Old Covenant vs New Covenant- Part 4

A study by Danny Bunn

         I feel it is important that everyone sees that faith always pleased God and that is why Abraham was called the father of the faith because he pleased God through faith and faith alone. The law came into being about 430 years after Abraham pleased God because he trusted him or had faith in him and his promises. The word also shows me that Abraham was also pleasing God before he was circumcised since Abraham was circumcised when he was 99 years old and his boy was 13 and all the men in his household were circumcised whatever age they were on that same day. Even though later God showed them to circumcise their male babies at 8 days old and today we know that is the perfect time for circumcision.
         One of the "Hebrew Christians" whom I have been debating quoted me verses 10-14 but from what was said in verse 10 is about all he focused on and he didn't really talk about the next 4 verses since they didn't go along with his "religious" beliefs and I personally believe because he knew he wouldn't get near as many converts. So all the verses together that you read before blows his argument with me telling me that they only need to be circumcised at 8 days old and if you are not circumcised then it is all right if you don't get circumcised is basically what he told me and that was a lie. If you are under the old covenant, any age based on the old covenant you must be circumcised if you convert to their religion under the old covenant but that truth changed under the new covenant.
         As you read the verses below focus on the "and" words and really think about what you are reading. It is not just dealing with 8 day old babies as the person I was discussing this with was telling me.

Gen 17
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
         Verse 14 makes it plain that every man whether bought with money or born in the house is to be circumcised or he has broken God's covenant and is to be cut off. That old covenant demands were taken away under the new covenant. I have shared enough on this in my other papers SO the 4 verses below will do for here so I put it in context. The law of circumcision was changed and the man I was debating talks out of both sides of his mouth, so to speak. God changed his law in that area, that's all there is to it..

Galatians 5
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
         I have shown that the types in the OT (Old Covenant) were fulfilled such as circumcision or the Sabbath or meat eating laws, etc. What was fulfilled is not repeated in the New Testament or New Covenant but the ones that have a double meaning such as not committing adultery or lying or stealing, etc are repeated in the NT showing they are still in force. One example would be the double meaning of not committing adultery such as staying faithful to your wife and staying faithful to your God by not playing with other gods such as Buddha or Yahweh, sex or drugs, money or whatever. Stay faithful to your mate whether in the flesh or in the spiritual. If and when people ask how does the meat eating law become a typology like the others then here is my reply. Think about the vision that God gave Peter in the book of Acts showing that God cleansed the Gentiles by showing him unclean meats and God sanctifying them and Peter saying he never ate those unclean meats and then God tells Peter what he cleansed not to call unclean. So those who have received Jesus and meat that is cleansed by those receiving it with prayer and thanksgiving. Both are received through faith and prayer and that cleanses them or it. Jesus is received through prayer and thanksgiving and meat is received through prayer and thanksgiving sanctifying it or them.

Going a little deeper into...
Gal 5
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For i testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
11 And I, brethren, if i yet preach circumcision, why do i yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
         In context here, Paul is dealing with the law of circumcision and he describes it as leaven and you do not want leaven in your "food" or in this case your teachings. If you mix a little law in with grace then the offence of the cross ceased since now it is not by grace alone through faith.

Col 2
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
         In this chapter Paul is talking about the law is what separated the Jew and the Gentile and now by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ that middle wall has been broken down and that wall was the law and Jesus Christ fulfilled it. Praise his holy name!

Eph 2
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
         Then here we see the same truth even clearer showing that the law of commandments is what he abolished and making a new man of the Gentile and the Jew by doing away with the law that showing him or his attributes or character, so to speak. Law and Grace met in the Lord Jesus Christ, he now gives us the power and the desire to do what the law could never do and that is give us the ability to do what he wants us to do with the laws that are still in force such as not committing adultery or lying, or stealing, killing, etc. The types and figures in the law are done away with now.

In closing, I want to share

Heb 4
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
         These verses are speaking of the real Sabbath of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the typology is gone, over. No day needs to be put above another day. Walk in the true sabbath daily, the Lord Jesus Christ, as you submit to God and resist the devil, you will walk in victory.
