Chapter 2
Five Case Studies
FIVE SCENES based on case studies of people confronted with the question of whether or not to have an abortion were presented at the Conference. They were written by the noted television and radio writer Alvin Boretz, and read by members of the Free Speech and Drama Department of Catholic University of America. Each scene depicts human beings trying to cope with the agonizing personal problems inherent in the question of abortion. The scenes do not suggest solutions, but were intended as dramatic and real starting points for discussion among the participants at the Conference. Following each scene are extracts from the discussion at the Conference about the scenes.
