Roman Catholic Beliefs- Part 16- The Seven Sacraments

Part 16 of "Cathechism Chat"

Jesus said, "Search the scriptures, for you think in them to have life everlasting; and the same are they that give testimony of me. And you will not come to me that you may have life."
(John 5:39,40; Douay Version)

Jesus alone gives life to all who come to him for forgiveness. I will be speaking on the seven sacraments. I have spoken on a few of them before indepth. Now I will cover all seven by showing with the bible that they are not needed and the few that are needed aren't for the purpose that the Roman Catholic says that they are for.

I am reading out of a "A Cathechism for Adults" by Rev. William J. Cogan, Lesson 18: The Seven Sacraments & on page 59, it says in question 7:
7. Describe the Seven Sacraments which Jesus gave us.
BAPTISM takes away Original sin, gives us birth in the life of grace.
CONFIRMATION, our personal Pentecost, gives spiritual strengthening.
HOLY EUCHARIST gives us the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ as our spiritual food.
PENANCE gives forgiveness of sins committed after Baptism.
ANNOINTING OF THE SICK gives healing in time of serious illness.
HOLY ORDERS makes a man a priest of Jesus Christ.
MATRIMONY gives the graces needed to live a Christian married life.

I have shared indepth on #1, Baptism, it doesn't save, it comes after salvation and it is a picture to show others that we have been buried with Christ and risen to a new life in him.
#2- Confirmation- As I see it, confirmation is something the Roman church came up with to take the place of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:8, the Holy Spirit gives us the power that we need to live for him.
#3- The Holy Eucharist or communion as Christians call it is a picture, type of the reality which is Christ. In John 6:35, Jesus shows to come to him is to eat and to believe on him is to drink.
#4- Penance, the Roman Catholic Church gets penance confused with repentance. I John 1:9 shows me that I am to confess my sins to God and by the time that I get to I John 2:1, I see that Jesus is my Advocate with the Father, standing up for me because he was in every way tempted as I am yet he was without sin. (Ck. Heb. 4:15)
#5- Annointing of the sick- James 5:14 & 15 in the KJV, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."
Comment: An elder is one who is older, more mature in the Lord, more established in the faith. The Douay Version uses "priests" instead of "elders" which is wrong in the Greek but remember I Peter 2:9 shows us that all Christians are priests unto God. Also check the Apocalypse (Revelation) 1:6 and crossing it with Mark 16:18, I see all who believe can lay hands on the sick and expect a complete recovery.
#6- Holy Orders- As we saw earlier, all Christians are priests.
#7- Matrimony- Marriage is wonderful but it is something that the Lord designed not a so-called sacrament of the Roman Catholic church. If the sacrament gives more grace and special helps, why are so many Roman Catholics getting divorces.

The 1st question on Lesson 30 says:
1. What is the Sacrament of Matrimony? (answer) Matrimony is the Sacrament made by Jesus Christ to sanctify (make holy) the lawful union of a Christian man and woman. Comment: I have a question based on this. Why aren't the priests of the Roman Catholic church allowed to marry? Based on the above answer, Jesus wants to sanctify, make holy the lawful union of a man and woman. And since all Christians are priests then they most certainly can marry. Also remember Peter was married and the Roman Catholics teach that he was the first pope. In Matt. 8:14,15 "14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. 15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them."

Come to Jesus for the life that you so badly need. He, alone can give all that you need in this life and in the one to come. You will also escape the purgatory of the Roman church which is the 'hell' mentioned in the Bible. It's eternal, once you go in, you don't come out.
