Jehovah's Witnesses' Beliefs- Jesus Christ, the God-Man

Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life and have it in abundance." John 10:10, last half, New World Translation

I'll be addressing the Jehovah's Witnesses. I'll be using a few of their books that they put out.
'The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures'
'Listening To The Great Teacher'
'You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth'
'The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures'
and 'The Truth that leads to Eternal Life'

Also I will be throwing out a few quotes from their Watchtower magazines.

This discussion will go deeper than it has before concerning Jesus and who he is.
First we need to see who the Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is before he came to earth and who is he after he went back to heaven. Reading from their book, 'Listening To The Great Teacher', Ch. 24 on page 99, it says, "The Great Teacher knew about angels. When he was in heaven he was an angel. And he lived with other angels. He knew millions of them." Then we go to their book, 'You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth.' Turning to Ch. 6 and on page 58, 2nd. paragraph, it says, "Before coming to earth Jesus was called the 'Word' of God. This title shows that he served in heaven as the one who spoke for God. He was also called God's "Firstborn", as well as his "only-begotten" Son. (John 1:14; 3:16; Hebrews 1:6) This means that he was created before all the other spirit sons of God, and he was the only one who was directly created by God. The Bible explains that this "firstborn" Son shared with Jehovah in creating all other things. (Colossians 1:15,16) Thus when God said, "Let us make man in our image", he was talking to this Son. Yes, the very one who later came to earth and was born from a woman had shared in the creation of all things! He had already lived in heaven with his Father for an unknown number of years!- Genesis 1:26; Proverbs 8:22, 30; John 1:3.

It's interesting to me as I read these books put out by the Watchtower that they will tell you some of the things in the bible and then they will go on to tell you what it means. Why?? I will be explaining that indepth in another discussion but the answer is a mind-blower to say the least.

I want people to study, to check out the things that I say, we are not called to take things for granted just because someone says they are of God. Any man can say that he is of God but his words will be true and his life will be. Their words will line up with the Bible or they are not of God. We need to be like the Bereans in the book of Acts, Ch.17:11, they searched the scriptures to see if the things that they heard were true.

Now we also need to see which angel that the Jehovah's Witnesses decided that he was. In the same book, Ch. 2 and on page 21, last paragraph says,
"War broke out in heaven: Michael [who is the resurrected Jesus Christ] and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled but it did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any longer in heaven." This bears witness with other books that they put out, like 'God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing', 1974, pg.155 in the third paragraph, we read, "In this way the Son of God was rewarded with a heavenly position higher than the one he held before becoming a perfect man and being bruised 'in the heel' by the Great Serpent. He resumed his pre-human name, Michael, so that again there was a 'Michael the Archangel' in heaven. (Jude 9; Revelation 12:7) The glorified 'seed' of God's 'woman' was now in a far stronger position to bruise the Serpent's head in God's due time.- Genesis 3:15. And in the Watchtower, Dec.15, 1984 on page 29 we read: "Michael the great prince is none other than Jesus Christ." There are other places to quote from but I think that we have it established that to the Jehovah's Witnesses that Jesus is Michael the archangel. So we see from reading this that the Jesus in heaven is Michael the archangel, re-created and this time after a divine order and that is why he is called 'a god' in their bible.

But now going to the 'Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures', I see something completely different. In John 1:1 on the left side where it has the greek and the english underneath, it doesn't say anything like the right side concerning 'a god'-- It says,"In beginning was the word, and the word was toward the God, and god was the word." They (the Watchtower) chose the capital and the small letters not the original languages.

Also I would like to throw out a few thoughts concerning John Chapter 1. In v.1, it says, "In beginning was the Word and the Word was toward the God, and god was the Word in the Kingdom Interlinear.
That word 'was' is interesting in the greek (imperfect tense), however far back you push the beginning- the Word (the Logos) was! It shows eternal existence. Also I would like to say something concerning the word, 'toward'which is the word 'with' in most versions, and it's 'pros' in the greek, it denotes face to face, communion, relationship, communication with someone. If the article was put in John 1:1, it would be teaching that the Father is the Son etc., and John is not trying to teach that but he is teaching that Jesus is God.
John 1:3 tells us that all things came into existence through Jesus. Which is true, but some say that means that Jesus was just the instrument that God used to create everything but that gives me problems because it says in Romans 11:36 that all things came into existence through Jehovah God. So we are back to the same conclusion- Jesus is Jehovah. This also lines up with Isaiah 44:24, which says,
"This is what Jehovah has said, your Repurchaser and the Former of you from the belly: 'I Jehovah, am doing everything, stretching out the heavens by myself, laying out the earth. Who was with me?"

So as we saw in a different message, either Jehovah lied or he forgot that he didn't do it by himself. And both are ridiculous answers, He didn't lie and he didn't forget because Jesus is Jehovah. Praise his holy name!

Also in reference to "..the only begotten Son of God." What comes forth from God is God- and that is why the Father calls his Son "God." ". But with reference to the Son: God is your throne forever and ever, and [the] scepter of your kingdom is the scepter of uprightness. (Heb.1:8, NWT).
Or another way to put it is: What comes forth from God is God. Jesus Christ has always been God but when he came to earth, he was born of a woman, a virgin. She supplied the body that he was going to live in. Jesus Christ was the God/Man. He was 100% God and 100% man. He had two natures wrapped up in one being.

In their book, 'The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life' on page 13, it says in the second paragraph, quoting: "We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God's Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination. It should be the sincere desire of every one of us to learn what God's will is for us, and then do it. unquote All I have to say is 'Amen to that' Let's do it.

Please e-mail me and I will get back with you because there are plenty of places even in the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures to show that Jesus is Jehovah.

Also check this article out that I wrote concerning Jesus Christ. Is God Jesus or a Trinity?
