"[T]ake thine ease,
eat, drink, and be merry."
People are looking for the answer in life. Everybody wants to
be happy. There's nothing wrong with that. But they are looking
in the wrong places. Let me tell you a story; it's a true story,
even though parts of it will be make-believe because I'm going to
imagine what happened in the areas that I don't know anything
about.
Long, long ago in the Garden of Eden, there lived the first
man and the first woman. They were happy. They were living on a
paradise on earth. God gave them dominion over everything that
swims in the sea, flies in the air, and walks on the land. They
owned it all. And we think that Howard Huges had a lot! Anyway,
Adam probably had a blast naming the animals, swinging with the
monkeys, roaming with the lions, laughing at the ants 'cause they
couldn't get in his pants. (He didn't have any, remember Levi's
hadn't started their business yet). Then when the day was drawing
to a close, he would praise God for the woman that He gave him.
She was probably a 'super' woman and I do mean super! Then along
comes Satan in the body of a serpent and tempts her to eat of the
forbidden fruit, the only thing that God told them that they could
not have. Well, to make a long story short, she listens to Satan
and partakes of the fruit. Then she brings some to Adam and he
eats. The liar (Satan) becomes the so-called god of this world.
They gave their dominion to him. Thousands of years later, God
becomes a man and rightly wins back through his death on the cross
(He being the perfect sin-offering for the whole world) absolute
dominion and authority over the earth again. But even though God
bought us back with a price- a very high price, the precious blood
of Jesus- the majority of the world are still following Satan and
rejecting God's free gift of eternal life through Jesus.
So the looking goes on for the answer. They're looking in the
bottle, in the bed, in the bank, in their brains, in their battles
for more. Yet they are hardening their hearts to the calling of
God and that's sad. The Bible says, "And I will say to my soul,
Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease,
eat, drink, and be merry.
"But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be
required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast
provided?" Luke 12:19,20
Come to Jesus Christ. He's everything that you could want and
more. He'll give you peace, love, joy, hope, strength to face each
and every day with it's problems. He'll never leave you nor
forsake you. He's worth it; you'll never regret it. Sin will keep
dragging you down until it destroys you. Jesus came to break the
shackles of sin that binds us and give us life to the fullest.
