WHY???
Written by Danny D. Bunn, B.A. (Born-again Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ)
Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon apostle and authority, says in his
book, Mormon Doctrine on page 513:
"Mormonism is Christianity, Christianity is Mormonism. They
are one and the same, and they are not to be distinguished from
each other in the minutest detail."
WHY?
When John Taylor, in Journal of Discourses, Volume 6, page 167,
says:
"We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of
nonsense... It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as
corrupt as hell: and the devil could not invent a better engine to
spread his work than Christianity of the nineteenth century."
COMMENT: Christianity of the nineteenth century believed the same
thing that it does today. So once again I ask,
WHY??
Another quote from John Taylor:
"The transactions of men are even more outrageous against the
Lord, and the only excuse for them is their ignorance. What! are
Christians ignorant? Yes, as ignorant of the things of God as the
brute beast." (Ibid, page 25)
WHY??
Then Brigham Young, in Journal of Discourses, Volume 5, page
331, says:
"Their belief reminds me that brother Joseph B. Nobles once told
a Methodist priest, after hearing him describe his god, that the
god they worshipped was the 'Mormons' Devil- a being without a
body, whereas our God has a body, parts, and passions."
WHY???
Brigham Young also said this in another one of his sermons in
Journal of Discourses, Volume 4, page 196:
"Inquire why they do not do something for the Gospel, and
instruct them if they cannot pay their tithing, or gather with the
saints, to go and preach to their neighbours, and they will say to
you, 'O, my neighbors are pretty well off, they are good people,
here are the Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, etc., and they
are good people, and I really do not feel it is my duty to preach
to them.' Where are such persons? They are in darkness, they have
apostatized."
COMMENT: Remember, Brigham Young said that he never preached a
sermon that you cannot call it scripture.
(Check Journal of Discourses, Volume 13, page 95).
I guess that he didn't feel like he cut the Christians enough so
he throws out another lie concerning something else that John
Taylor said, quoting:
"Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were
hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its
borders, and then kicked on to the earth."
(Journal of Discourses, Vol.6, page 176)
Orson Pratt in his book, 'The Seer' on page 225, quoting:
"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore
of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the
Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications
and wickedness. And any person who shall be so wicked as to
receive a holy ordinance of the gospel from the ministers of any of
these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless
they repent of the unholy and impious act."
WHY????
In one way, he's half right but the Catholic church became more
and more corrupt as time went on and as they kept adding so many
unbiblical additions to their 'church'. All dates are approximate.
Such as:
Prayers for the dead AD 300
Worship of angels and dead saints 375
The mass as a daily celebration
was adopted 394
Prayers began to be offered to Mary,
dead saints, and angels 600
The Rosary, or prayer beads (copied from
Hindus and Mohammedams) was introduced by
Peter the Hermit... 1090
The Inquisition of "Heretics" was instituted
by the Council of Verona........ 1184,
and was
legalized and promoted by the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215.
Before the Inquisition ran its course, historians estimate that
5 to 15 million people lost their lives through torture and
execution by the Roman Catholic church.
I believe something else needs to be said here concerning the
Catholics and the Christians. Are Catholics Christian? No, if you
are truly a Catholic then you cannot be a Christian but on the
other hand if you are truly a Christian, you cannot be a Catholic.
They are incompatible terms. Christians who came out from under
Roman Catholic rule or those who would never submit to it were
called 'Protestants' which comes from the word 'protest'. The
Christians protested a Roman Catholic dictatorship. Christians
better check out the reasons for 'the Inquisition' because it might
happen again.
Now we come to the ultimate in the Mormon - Christian conflict.
Going to one of the versions of Joseph Smith's so-called first
vision and this is recorded in Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith
2, verses 18,19. We read these words:
18. My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know of
which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join.
No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be
able to speak, then I asked the Personages that stood above me in
the light, which of all the sects was right-and which should I join.
19. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they
were all wrong: and the Personage who addressed me said that all
their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that "they draw near
to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."
This what the Lord supposedly said to Joseph. We as Christians
profess the same things that the Christians did in Joseph Smith's
day. This was to have happened in 1820 when Joseph Smith was 15
years old.
COMMENT: Joseph Smith joined or attempted to join the Methodist
probationary class to become a member of the Methodist Church in
June of 1828, almost eight (8) years after 'God' tells Joseph not
to join any church.
(See The Amboy Journal, April 30, 1879, page 1).
Also: Joseph Smith's mother and two brothers, Hyrum and Samuel
didn't stop going to the Presbyterian Church until around
September, 1828.
(See Journal of Mormon Thought, Winter 1970, page 122; Brigham
Young University Studies, Summer 1970, page 483)
QUESTION: Didn't any of the Smiths care about what God had to say
about the other churches?
WHY?????
This question goes over and over in my head, Why? Why? Why? Why
do the Mormons want to be Christian? A Christian is a believer in
Christ, a follower of His example or teachings. And this can only
be done by letting him (God) live within us and give us the
strength to do what he wants us to do (Philippians 2:13)
Yet, Joseph Smith said that he did more than Jesus Christ.
(Check History of the Church, Volume 6, pages 408, 409).
QUESTION: Why don't the followers of Joseph Smith prefer to be
called "Smithians"?
WHY???????
I would like to throw out a thought concerning what goes on in
Mormon temples all over the world. In their Endowment Ceremony,
the third part entitled "The Lone and Dreary World" they have
'Lucifer' (Satan) paying a preacher and paying him well to preach
what we as Christians believe. In other words, the Mormon church
is still saying that we follow Satan and not God just as they were
saying when they started their 'church'.
Eternal life is a gift. Nobody works for a gift, but when you
accept this particular gift, you become a new creation. God comes
into your life and empowers you to live for him. Then, and only
then, does he free you from the penalty of sin, which is hell.
Daily he frees you from the power of sin as you submit to him and
resist the devil. When you leave here to be with him, he sets you
free from the presence of sin.
Let's read some scriptures. Ephesians 2:8,9 says: "For by grace
are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Then in James 4:7, which reads:
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he
will flee from you."
Going to Romans 5:8, 8:32, we read these exciting words: "But God
commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us."
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all,
how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
Romans 3:20 makes it plain that the deeds of the law don't save:
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be
justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
The above verse and Galatians 3:24 shows that the law doesn't save
but it does show our need for Jesus, the perfect Saviour for the
whole world because he was and is sinless.
"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to
Christ, that we might be justified by faith."
Finally, to our eternal abode, which is with Him forever in John
14:1-6 and Revelation 21:23-27:
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also
in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am there ye
may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas said unto Him, 'Lord, we know not whether thou goest; how
can we know the way'? Jesus saith unto him, 'I am the Way, the
Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me."
"And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to
shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is
the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall
walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their
glory and honor into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at
all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall
bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. And there
shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither
whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which
are written in the Lamb's book of life."
WHY???????
not come today? He's calling!
"Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am
meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
(Matthew 11:28-30)
