The Most Controversial Bible Verse

A study by Danny Bunn, B.A (a born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.)

I will be dealing with a video I watched on YouTube with the same title I put on this web page since I will be dealing with that video indepth from one position mainly the "faith" position.
I put his video link below for those who would like to watch his video either before or after they read my comments also below..

The Most Controversial Bible Verse | Christian Bible Teaching

I will also be addressing the person who did the talking in the video below as I will be using the "you" pronoun when talking to that person..
I want to begin by saying I am glad that you used God's pure word in the English language for the English speaking people which is the KJV.
You started off using these verses

Matt 5:8
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Matt 5:20
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 25:46
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Matt 13:41-43
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Rev 20:12
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

This verse ends with "according to their works."

NOW I want to deal with these verses for a little bit before we come to your "most controversial verse".

I will focus on this last one above first dealing with "their works".

John 6:28, 29
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

John 6:40
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

SO from the above scriptures we see that the work and works of God IS to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and what he accomplished on the cross for our sins. NOW let's look at
II Cor 5:17-21
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him
.
Really think about these verses for a minute. When I came into Christ Jesus by repenting and receiving him into my life as Lord and Saviour, he made me a new creature. Verse 17 makes it plain that old things have passed away and ALL things are become new. Then as I keep reading I see in verse 21 that he MADE me the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus AND that far exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.

Then you use Psa 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
…. UNLESS you are reading from different perverted bibles such as the 79 version of the NIV which says "the wicked RETURN to the grave." (Captial emphasis mine) But that is a different subject altogether.

NOW you tell us the most controversial verse in the whole bible.
I John 3:7
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

I would like to bring in verses 8- 10 to get more context
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Here I see that those born of God cannot sin because his seed remains in us because we are born of God. God's seed is pure, sinless and uncorrupted and THOSE born of God CANNOT SIN.
KEEP in mind II Cor 5:17 that I brought up earlier.

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
This shows that I am a totally new creature, I never existed before based on context SINCE NOW I am born sinless by the blood of the lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I WILL NOW SHARE a few thoughts with you using the verses above and I am just going to hit lightly on this subject to keep it short as possible but we can go deeper into it if you would like later.

BY the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ IS the ONLY way to heaven, he accomplished it ALL when he died on the cross to free us from sin and he said those words, "It is finished". We are NOT going to add anything to his finished work or take anything from it, we are just to believe AND as I walk in that belief I walk in victory. Believe is a present tense verb, I believe hence I submit and walk in him. Phil 2:13 says God works in me to will and to do of his good pleasure. The bible also lets us know that we also have the old sin nature that we inherited from Adam still with us and we are called to crucify it daily to walk in the victory that God wants us to walk in BUT It is a day to day experience. We are in a war zone, this world is NOT our home and we might miss the mark at times, get confused or whatever but God knows and he is a good Father and he picks us up and says, :Come on son, you can do it, just look to me", so to speak.

Around 4:06 minute mark you stuck your foot in your mouth, so to speak. Here you say "believing on Jesus WON'T get you to heaven" even though believing on Jesus IS the ONLY thing that will get you to heaven. Just that one statement shows me clearly that you will NOT be in heaven just as the "righteous" Scribes and Pharisees WON'T be there either, they were trusting in their own righteousness as you seem to be trusting in yours AND that is a losing battle if you were honest with yourself.
You build a whole scenario on one verse and that is super spooky and wrong. The word tells us to rightly divide the word of truth and you are NOT doing that. We take the word of God as a whole and then we will see clearer and NOT your way of doing it.
Then you dig your hole deeper by using another verse out of context and that is...

Luke 10:25-28
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

So from these verses I see that based on what I CAN DO since that is what the rich man asked him tempting him JUST as YOU are basing YOUR salvation ON WHAT you can do. Jesus told him to do what he just said and he shall live BUT he can't do what he just said EXCEPT in his own self righteousness which are as "filthy rags" so he lost by his own words he condemned himself JUST as you are doing.
Let's keep going in this chapter.

Luke 10 (cont)
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Then after Jesus gives him an answer BASED ON WHAT HE CAN DO HE SOUGHT TO JUSTIFY HIMSELF EVEN MORE. I am trying to make this short and sweet but that is gong to be close to impossible from where you are taking us now with your words. Man's works always fall short of the perfect works of God HENCE we better be trusting ONLY in the blood of Jesus to set us free. NOW we need to look at the rich man playing the same game with Jesus.

Matt 19
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

He started off by asking Jesus WHAT GOOD THING SHALL HE DO??? IF that guy knew the word any in the old covenant, the word tells him that there is NONE GOOD, no not one. So he CANNOT DO ANY GOOD THING TO EARN eternal life, he is totally incapable of it. He is a lost sinner needing the blood of Jesus Christ on his iife to cleanse him from all sin.

         Then YOU take us to...
John 8:51 51 Verily, truly, I tell you, whoever obeys my words will never see death.
I NEED to say this NOW after I have been going over your points one at a time, I see that you don't stick with the true word of God hence your confusion makes more sense to me now. The new bibles have messed with the minds of a lot of believers. I almost left the faith years back because of the new bibles, they are full of contradictions, lies, and the like. IN CLOSING, you CANNOT love God or your neighbor as God commands UNLESS you have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and when that happens he comes into your life and empowers you to live for him NOT trusting in your own strength and abilities to do what can only be done by the power of God in a person's life.

         The bible says in...
Col 2

"6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:"

I received him by faith, trusting in his finished work and I walk that way daily as I submit to him and resist the devil THEN and only then do I walk in the victory that he promised and ALL of us fall EVEN you IF you are truly a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ BUT I have my doubts.
I will be stopping for now and adding to it in a deeper format as time goes on.

I also debate self righteous Hebrew Christians at times and so I decided to put up a page on my site dealing with them.
It is here in case you would like to see more of where I am coming from. You do NOT seem to realize the love, the mercy, the grace of God that was bestowed on the world because of what the Lord Jesus Christ went through to deliver us from sin.
