Chapter 6
Good news in a sad world
Joe goes to work the next day and he is hyped to put it
lightly. When lunch time comes around, he goes to the spot where
Clyde always eats. He is sitting there waiting for him to tell
him the good news about receiving Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.
Clyde comes up a few minutes later and Joe is almost hollering
because of the joy that is swelling in him. He says, "Clyde,
Guess what?" Before Clyde can open his mouth, Joe says, "I am new
inside Clyde, I received Jesus last night and so did Cindy."
Clyde did holler. "Praise the Lord! Bless His holy name!" He
grabs Joe and hugs him and says, "Brother, it is wonderful to
have you in the family of God!" They are both crying tears of
joy. Other employees are looking on, wondering what in the world
is going on over there. Clyde and Joe sit down and Clyde for the
first time prays with Joe over their meal. He even lets Joe pray,
"God, I thank you so much for Clyde. That he was willing to take
a stand for you even at his place of work. That he is not ashamed
of you and because of it, he shared the truth with me and now I
have eternal life. I thank you so very much, Lord. I pray that we
will become better and better friends as the time goes on. In the
blessed name of Jesus. Amen." Clyde says, "We didn't thank the
Lord for the food. Joe says, "Oh I forgot!" "That's all right,
Clyde says, "I would like to say a few words anyway." Joe tells
Clyde to do it. They bow their heads again and Clyde prays, "God,
I thank you for my new brother in the faith and I pray Jesus that
we will seek to fulfill your words and love one another as you
loved us. The love of Christian brothers and sisters should be a
pre-eminent thing, it should stick out like a sore thumb, so to
speak, Lord. It seems so many Christians are self-aware more than
God aware and they don't want people to think that they are
messing around, or homos, or whatever else Satan can come up with
to cause us to act towards one another the same way the world
acts towards one another. This just shouldn't be and I pray God
that we will be God pleasers and not men pleasers. I thank you so
much for this wonderful experience that Joe has shared with me
and I know that you said that those who believe on you will not
be put to shame and I can see that Joe is not ashamed that he
knows you. Praise your holy name! Thank you Jesus! Amen!" Joe
looks up at Clyde and says, "Clyde we didn't thank the Lord for
the food." Clyde starts laughing and Joe joins in and then they
both raise their hands towards heaven with lunch sacks in their
hands and say, "Thank you, Jesus!"
They have a good time of fellowship as Joe rehearses the previous
day to Clyde. Clyde says, "Joe that was about the time that I was praying
for you guys." The shouting started then and the employees are shaking
their heads wondering what has become of Joe, they know Clyde is
fairly strange but is Joe getting religious now. Time will tell.
Time doesn't take long to tell them. As they are going out to
their cars at the end of the work day, Joe is going around to
different cars and offering them a tract. They look at Joe
strangely and they take it, wondering what this is about. It
says, "Smile, Love is Here!" Why? Did Joe get a new girlfriend or
something and this is how he is letting us know it? Why the
pamphlet? Why is he saying, "Praise the Lord!"? I guess reading
this thing will answer those questions.
Joe is on cloud nine but clouds dissipate and go away, then
what? Can faith hold us up?
