Chapter 14
That still small voice in a noisy world
Cindy rushes in to her house. She falls on her knees in
gratitude to the one true God for his awesome mercy. She prays
for the courage, the wisdom, the strength to do the right things
now. She has to tell Joe but she knows that he doesn't want a
baby for a couple of years yet. Her mind goes back to the
conversation they had the other day at his work place. She starts
thinking about the vacation that is coming up, her trip around
the world, her desire to be a model. Her mind goes back to the
baby within her womb. Then she thinks about what she read in
Psalm 139. 'Is a vacation around the world, modeling some clothes
more important than a human life?' Cindy starts laughing and
praising God. "God, How could I have been so blind?" A voice in
her spirit, some would call it her conscience but it is there.
"Cindy, I have already delivered you from the power of darkness,
now you must continue to renew your mind with my word and I will
speak to you in even clearer, stronger ways. Do you not remember
that I told you in my holy word. 'I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your
reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what
is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.' You were
about to present your child as a sacrifice to the god of this
world. Even as I said in my book, 'Moreover thou hast taken thy
sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these
hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy
whoredoms a small matter, 'That thou hast slain my children,
and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?'
Cindy, my love for you is so great that I would have allowed you to
do the very thing that I detest, you could have killed your son for your
own social reasons but sin destroys and it would have been something that
you would have carried to your grave. Shedding innocent blood is
not something that I take lightly."
Cindy quit hearing the voice within for now. It was like she was in
a dream world and the voice was so majestic yet so kind but it was
also stern, commanding her utmost attention. She rose from her knees
and looks at her watch, it has been almost two hours ago when she
arrived at her house and it seems like two minutes. She grabs her
Bible and a concordance. She finds a verse in Ezekiel which says,
"For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass
through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even
unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of
Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of
by you." (Ezekiel 20:31) Her mind goes to the testimonies of
women who have had an abortion at 6, 7, even 8 and 9 months along
and she read about how the babies are killed with a saline
solution. They are burnt alive and sometimes it takes hours for
them to finally die. She couldn't imagine how they could do it.
How could they not know that it was a human life within? even
though hers isn't formed yet and probably couldn't feel pain, it
was still a human life, which deserves to live. She leaves for a
few minutes to buy a book on birth and growth, to seek to find
out when the baby feels pain, about the maturing process. She
figures that it is better late than never to learn these things.
About an hour later, Joe comes into the house. He is pretty
upset with Jerry again. Joe is thinking about defending vegetable
rights, surely they should have their rights too. Jerry had the
audacity to say that a woman has the right to have an abortion
since it isn't a baby yet but then he tells Joe that he agrees
with the government fining people $5,000 if they destroy an eagle
in an egg. Joe is thinking, 'What a joke! If the baby in the womb
isn't life then the eagle in the egg certainly isn't life or
vice-versa. If the eagle in the egg is life then the baby in the
womb is life. His mind is spinning with all the junk that he
hears from day to day and he is getting fed up with it. "God,
what do you want me to do? Why don't you give me answers to these
questions and many more that goes on in my mind?" All was quiet
then and he thought that he heard something, "Wait on me, Joe. I
am in charge here and I know what I am doing!" Joe says out loud
but to himself or so it seems, "Yea, the Lord will answer my
questions as he has so many before. I don't have to have the
answers right this minute. This will maybe teach me to be
patient, to wait on the Lord and watch him work."
Joe sits down and grabs the t.v. remote and one click. "Harry, don't
I love you?" "Lisa, I have to do this, I have found another woman who
treats me better than you do." "But Harry we have been together
for years!" "I know that Lisa but there have been problems..."
Click! The t.v. is off again. Joe is thinking, 'What good is that
thing anyway?" He takes the controller and throws it in a box
sitting by the front door. Joe is thinking, "Maybe I will forget
where I threw it. Cool!" He bows his head as a vehicle pulls up
outside. Cindy gets out of the car. She is thinking, 'Joe is
home.' She looks down at the books in her hands. She bought five
of them. She looks up towards heaven and the Lord would have been
just as pleased if she looked within towards her heart. He is
there and he is everywhere. Cindy prays a quick prayer, "God,
just be within this and give me the words to say. I know that I
did right and I need your guidance once again." She walks to the
front door and opens it. Joe is on his knees in front of the
couch, he is praying. Cindy is quiet and she eases the door shut.
The prayer continues, "Lord and I thank you for the many good
things that you have done. I thank you that you have made our
life so much more worth the living. You have given us one victory
after another but I ask you to help us to be a sold out couple
for you glory. I do not see many of them on the streets, my work
place, at the places that I go shopping, or wherever. I know that
you have a lot more people than I see out there. Lord, even this
t.v., show me what to do about it!" Cindy is thinking, 't.v.?
What is he talking about now?' She tip toes into the bedroom with
her books, drops them on the bed and takes her shoes off and goes
to the kitchen to make dinner.
