Some More Differences in the NIV compared to the KJV.

Comments by Danny D. Bunn, B.A., (Born-Again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ)

I Tim. 3:16--
"16. Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken to glory." NIV
"16. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." KJV
(Who? in the NIV) Most Greek manuscripts say 'God' The NASB says, "And by common confession great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh.." The NWT put out by the Jehovah's Witnesses says, "..He was made manifest in the flesh.."
[Comments] "1. Of the 300 Greek manuscripts containing I Timothy 3:16, only five late manuscripts omit "God." The uncials, Aleph and especially A and C, have been altered here so that either "God" or "who" can be deduced.
        2. The earliest witnesses support the inclusion of "God": Dionysius of Alexandria A.D. 265, Gregory of Nyssa A.D. 394, and Didymus A.D. 398. In addition, Ignatious A.D. 110, Barnabas and Hippolytus A.D. 235, and Diodorus of Tarsus A.D. 370 allude to the inclusion of "God." Of writers before A.D. 400, Origen, the exiled heretic, stands alone in omitting "God".
        3. Versions used around the world, such as the Italian Diodati, the French Osterwald, the Spanish Valera, the Portuguese Almeida, and Luther's German Bible, all attest to "God was manifest in the flesh."
        4. The overwhelming majority of manuscripts say, "God." The NIV and NASB footnote stating, "some later mss read God," should read "some later manuscripts read who." Those few copies that have 'who' in the place of 'God,' do not have a complete sentence. There is no subject without 'God.' In addition, a neuter noun 'mystery' cannot be followed by a masculine pronoun 'who.' To avoid having a clause with no subject, the NIV and J.W. bible arbitrarily drop the word 'who' and invent a new word, 'He.' The NASB retains 'who' and adds 'He.' By making these additions and subtractions, the new versions, in I Timothy 3:16, follows no Greek manuscripts at all, not even the five late uncials.
        5. The omission of 'God' in the new versions is based on its deletion in 1881 by Westcott and Hort revision which Metzer says, 'was taken as the basis for the present United Bible Societies' edition.'(137) Its omission resulted from the doctrinal stance of the 1881 committee, not from any overwhelming manuscript evidence. Of the committee's two Unitarian members, Smith and Thayer, the former reveals why the revisors dropped 'God'.
The old reading [God'] has been pronounced untenable by the revisors...a reading that was the natural result of the growing tendency in early Christian times to look upon the humble Teacher as the incarnate word and therefore as God manifest in the flesh.
It was simple for the Unitarians of the 1881 committee to find a manuscript or two to support their denial of the deity of Christ. The Arians of the fourth century, became the Nestorians of the fifth century. These were later followed by the Socinians of the sixteenth century and the Jehovah's Witnesses of today.
Dr. George Bishop summarizes: '[H]e who was manifest in the flesh' [is] the precise rendering for which the Unitarians have been contending for the last 1800 years.
NEW AGE BIBLE VERSIONS...

Heb. 9:10--
"10. They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings-external regulations applying until the time of the new order." NIV
"10. Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation." KJV
No Greek word for 'new order'

I Peter 2:2--
"2. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow up in your salvation," NIV
"2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:"KJV
Used above with Luke 4:3,4 There are many craving pure spiritual milk from so many religious books, teachings, etc. but it needs to be the pure milk of the word.

I Peter 4:1--
"1. Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin." NIV
"1. Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;" KJV
So if we suffer in the body, are we done with sin? Wouldn't you say, "for us" is needed in this verse? Because Christ has suffered in his body for us, then by his power, his presence in our lives we too can overcome sin. if we move in the same mind set that he had. Determined to walk in victory but we can only do it because he suffered for us.

I John 3:9--
"9. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God." NIV
"9. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." KJV
Is that true in your life? After you were born of God, did you continue to sin? Was sin still coming forth out of you? How about your spirit man which was born of God, could you sin in your spirit? The bible commands us to crucify the old man, the sin nature and walk in the new nature born of the incorruptible seed of God, his word. He makes you a new creature (Ck. II Cor. 5:17) The Lord comes into your life and empowers you to live for him as you submit to God and resist the devil. (Ck. James 4:7)

I John 5:7--
"7. " " NIV
"7. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." KJV

Ruckman shows from different times in the past the verse in I John 5:7 was quoted and he goes as far back as 170 A.D. in the Old Syriac, 180 Tatian, 200 Old Latin and Tertullian, 250 Cyprian, 350 Priscillian and Athanasius, 415 Council of Carthage, 450 Jerome, 510 Fulgentius, 750 Wianburgensis, 1150 Miniscule Manuscript 88, 1200,1300,1400 Waldensian Bibles, and 1500 Manuscript 61.

Rev. 5:14--
"14. The four living creatures said, 'Amen,' and the elders fell down and worshiped." NIV
"14. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever." KJV
Worshipped what, who in the NIV? The KJV shows us, "Him who sits on the throne and the Lamb forever."

Prophecies
Matt. 27:35--
"35. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots." NIV
"35. And the crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots." KJV
Psalms 22:18 makes you think that it was spoken by the prophet thus fulfilling prophecy.

Mark 15:28--
"28. " "
"28. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors." KJV
Isa. 53:12 lets you know that it was fulfilling prophecy.
Why are they (the two preceding verses) even in the footnotes?

Why does the NIV have the two sets of scriptures below since they are not in the oldest and best manuscripts.(?)
Mark 16:9-20--
Remember Mark is supposedly the oldest Gospel and based on the NIV, Jesus is left dead or at least he isn't seen by anyone. Based on the NIV, the so-called oldest and most reliable manuscripts, Mark ends with these words, "They said nothing to anyone because they were afraid." The Gospel contains good news. That closes with some good news.

John 7:53-8:11--
The note above these verses say: (The earliest and most reliable manuscripts do not have John 7:53-8:11.) Vaticanus, designated 'B', and Sinaiticus, designated 'Aleph' are the two most corrupt manuscripts around. They were written by at least two hands by a computer test. They have been changed, erased, marked through, etc. In short, they are corrupt.

Moody Vice President, Alfred Martin, calls Aleph & B "depraved." (Which Bible, page 150)

Dean John Burgon writes: "I have convinced myself by laborious collation that they are the most corrupt of all. They are the depositories of the largest amount of fabricated and intentional perversions of truth which are discoverable in any copies of the word of God. They exhibit a fabricated text...[and are] shamefully mutilated."

(The Revision Revised, pp. 16, 520, 318.)

This is done a lot in the NIV, taking out words showing Jesus as Lord or/and Christ
Matt. 8:29--
"29. 'What do you want with us, Son of God?' they shouted. 'Have you come to torment us before the appointed time?'" NIV
"29. And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?" KJV
'Jesus' is gone, maybe they were hollering at someone close by.

Matt. 16:20--
"20. Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ."NIV
"20. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ." KJV
         What happened to 'Jesus'?

Matt. 18:11--
11." "NIV
11." For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost." KJV
Taken out, it's in the footnote.

Mark 15:32--
"32 Let this Christ, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.'
Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him." NIV
"32. Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him." KJV
"this" Christ, "this" king is not in any Greek manuscripts.

Luke 23:42--
"42. Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." NIV
"42. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom." KJV
Jesus is not Lord to the guy on the cross by reading the NIV. He confessed who Jesus is in the KJV based on Rom. 10:9,10.

Acts 16:31--
"31. They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved- you and your household." NIV
"31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." KJV
        'Christ' is gone.

Acts 19:4--
"4.Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." NIV
"4. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." KJV
         'Christ' is gone.

I Cor. 5:4--
"4. When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in the spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present,
5. hand over this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord." NIV

"4. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5. To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus." KJV
'Christ' is taken out twice in the NIV. V. 5 is interesting here, his sin nature is being turned over to Satan to destroy. Interesting!

I Cor. 9:1--
"1. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have not I seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?" NIV
"1. Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?" KJV
'Christ' is missing in the NIV.

I Cor. 9:18--
"18. What then is my reward? Just this: That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, so not make use of my rights in preaching it." NIV
"18. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel." KJV
What is the 'it' that Paul is offering free of charge in the NIV? By reading the KJV, it's the 'gospel of Christ.'

II Cor. 11:31--
"31. The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying." NIV
"31. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not." KJV
         'our' and 'Christ' are out.

Eph. 3:14--
"14. For this reason I kneel before the Father," NIV
"14. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ," KJV
"of our Lord Jesus Christ " is out and not even a footnote. If it is not a specific Father then all is go, Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, Hari Krisha, etc.

I Thess. 3:11--
"11. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you." NIV
"11. Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you." KJV
         'Christ' gone again.

II Thess 1:8, 12--
"8. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey our Lord Jesus.
12. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." NIV

"8. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"
"12. That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." KJV
'Christ' out two times in the NIV.

Heb. 3:1--
"1. Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess." NIV
"1. Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;" KJV
         'Christ' not there.

I John 1:7--
"7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son, purifies us from all sin." NIV
"7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." KJV
'Christ' is out. Westcott and Hort believed that there were many Christs for different ages so why didn't they want the real Christ to be Christ. I guess because Satan doesn't mind many false christs, he just doesn't want a true one.

I John 4:3--
"3. but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God..."NIV
"3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:.."KJV
The Messiah has come in the flesh but you wouldn't know it by reading the NIV. Christ, the Anointed One is another title for the Messiah. What do they mean by acknowledge Jesus? They took out the words, 'Christ' and 'in the flesh'. Could it be that we must confess that the Messiah has truly come in the flesh?

Rev. 1:9--
"9. I John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus." NIV
"9. I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ." KJV
'Christ' is gone twice in this verse in the NIV.

Rev. 12:17--
"17. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring- those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus." NIV
"17. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." KJV
'Christ' is gone in the NIV.

Extras

The one in John 9:38 is interesting, Jesus gets worshipped here but the same greek word is in Mark 5:6 and all Jesus gets is some guy falling on his knees in front of him.
Also cross Matt. 9:18; 20. Once again the same greek word. In Luke 24:52, we have the same Greek word but this is after His resurrection or do they want you to think that it is God they are worshipping and not Jesus by reading verse 53.

Read Rev. 14:1 then go to v. 11.
"1. Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads." NIV
"11. And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." NIV

"1. And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
"11. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name." KJV
Makes you wonder why they have the "Father's" name plus in v. 1 in the NIV.

Finally Rev. 22:16, (Cf.) Isa. 14:12
Rev. 22:16." I Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright and Morning Star."NIV
Rev. 22:16 "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." KJV
         Tying this in with:
Isa. 14:12. "How have you fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!"NIV
Isa. 14:12. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" KJV
You can tell that the new perversion people really like Jesus, they made him a capital MS- Morning Star and Lucifer a little ms- morning star. That IS a big difference???

Dealing with some O.T. Scriptures:
Psa. 12:6,7--
"6. And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.
7. O Lord, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever."NIV
Is it really people that the verse is talking about?
"This is an irresponsible and dishonest translation. The Hebrew word, 'shamar' meaning 'to keep' which the New International Version translators render, 'you will keep us' is found in the future second person singular, 'thou shalt keep' and is directed to the third person plural, 'them' and not the first person plural, 'us' as the New International Version translators rendered it." (Dr. Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D.)
"6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." KJV
The NIV says that it is talking about the Jews but is it? Verse 6 sure doesn't make you think so.

Zech. 13:6,7--
"6.If someone asks him, 'What are these wounds on your body? he will answer, 'The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.'"NIV
"6. And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends."KJV
"wounds on your body" NIV footnote- "Wounds between your hands"

Micah 5:2--
"2. Because you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are of old, from ancient times." NIV
"2. But thou Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from old, from everlasting." KJV
At times the footnote helps a little, I think. "from days of eternity (?)"

Hosea 13:9--
"9. I will destroy you, O Israel, because you are against me, against your helper." NIV
"9. O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help." KJV
They are totally different. Which makes more sense and tie in Chapter 14:1
Hosea 14:1
"1. Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God. Your sins have been your downfall!" NIV
"1. O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity." KJV

Psa. 9:17--
"17. The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God." (1978) NIV
"17. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." KJV
So the wicked are sent back to the grave and all nations that forget God? Do you think so? The Jehovah's Witnesses do. Of course, they get their Bible from the same place all the new versions come from.

(More from a little different perspective.)
Exodus 12:5--
5. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. NIV
5. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: KJV
Take an animal, any animal- you may take a sheep or goat.

Quite a difference: Judges 5:10
10. You who ride on white donkeys sitting on your saddle blankets and you who walk along the road consider NIV
10. Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way. KJV
The new perversion people tell me that there is no change in the new 'Bibles'. This does sound the same, doesn't it?

Psalms 18:5
5. The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. NIV
5. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. KJV
         The grave doesn't hold anybody.

Speaking of Lucifer: Isaiah 14:15
15. But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. NIV
15. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. KJV
I don't know when Lucifer was ever brought down to the grave.
